Loveyapa Movie Review

Loveyapa Movie

Set in Delhi, this movie is a remake of the 2022 Tamil rom-com Love Today. It follows a young man named Gaurav, also known as Gucci (played by Junaid Khan), who is in a relationship with Baani (Khushi Kapoor). They haven’t told their families about their relationship yet. Baani even lies to her father, Atul Sharma (Ashutosh Rana), a music-loving lawyer, saying she won her new phone in a lucky draw — though it was actually a gift from Gucci. Read: Idli Kadai

Gucci’s sister, Kiran (Tanvika Parlikar), is engaged to a kind but overweight dentist named Anupam (Kiku Sharda). He wins her heart with his gentle and respectful nature.

One day, Baani’s father finds out about her relationship with Gucci through their phones. He calls Gaurav to meet him, leading to some funny moments. Finally, he says that before they can get married, they must exchange their phones for 24 hours.

At first, Baani and Gucci agree because they trust each other. But when the father insists they also share their passwords, things take a turn. Once they open each other’s phones, they find secrets that shock them both. Baani discovers that Gaurav watches adult videos and chats with other girls, while Gaurav finds out that Baani is still in touch with her ex-boyfriends.

At the same time, Kiran notices that her fiancé Anupam doesn’t like sharing his phone either, which makes her suspicious. The situation gets worse when a fake adult video of Baani appears online, leading her angry father to slap and almost disown her.

In the end, Gucci realizes his mistakes and stands by Baani. With the help of his loyal friends, he finds out the real culprit — a digital stalker who had created the deepfake video of Baani and her sister.

Loveyapa Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script of Loveyapa is written by Sneha Desai (known for Laapataa Ladies and the dialogues of Maharaj), based on the original story by Pradeep Ranganathan. Like her previous work, Sneha adds natural humor and real-life situations throughout the story. She also includes meaningful messages — especially aimed at today’s young generation.

Atul Sharma’s advice to his daughter Baani — “Repair, not replace!” — about her broken phone reflects one of the movie’s main ideas. Similarly, Gucci’s mother reminds him that people replace phones every two years, not relationships. The movie highlights issues like jumping to wrong conclusions, losing trust too easily, misunderstanding loved ones, and how mobile phones and AI (like Deepfakes) can create chaos in relationships. Even though it’s almost a scene-by-scene remake of the original, Sneha’s writing adds extra impact, just like she did in Laapataa Ladies.

The film is filled with continuous, smart humor that never feels forced. Its 138-minute runtime passes smoothly, with emotional and dramatic scenes adding depth without slowing the pace — and often leading back to laughter soon after.

If there’s one small flaw, it’s that Anupam’s reason for being so secretive about his phone feels a bit unrealistic. Still, it can be excused as just one of his quirky traits.

Loveyapa Movie Review: Star Performance

The film’s strong performances make this comedy even more entertaining. Junaid Khan (Maharaj, Strictly Unconventional) shines as Gucci. He perfectly understands how to act for the camera rather than the stage and delivers a natural, confident performance. At times, his expressions even remind you of his father, Aamir Khan.

Khushi Kapoor once again impresses after The Archies, where she stood out among her co-stars. As Baani, she looks genuine and acts with ease. While she may not yet have the same level of skill or screen presence as her sister Janhvi Kapoor, she’s definitely on the right path. In fact, she gives off the same “simple, girl-next-door” charm that actresses like Padmini Kolhapure had in the past.

Ashutosh Rana is excellent as Baani’s father — strict yet lovable, never crossing into villain territory. Kiku Sharda gives one of his best performances as the gentle and slightly awkward Anupam, easily stealing several scenes. Tanvika Parlikar plays Kiran convincingly as a confused but caring sister, while Grusha Kapoor (as their mother) adds a strong emotional touch.

The supporting cast, especially Jason Tham as Bobby and Aaditya Kulshreshth as Lamba, deliver solid performances that make Gucci’s group of friends fun to watch.
